∘ Nino Talikadze ∘ IMPACT OF LOCAL PRODUCTION ON FOOD INDEPENDENCE: TRENDS AND MODERN CHALLENGES Summary Food security is a guarantee that there is an enough volume of food in the country, for healthy life. In order to evaluate food security in Georgia were analyzed self-sufficiency ratios of the Agricultural products witch are strategic importance in 2007-2017 period. It is concluded that these self-sufficiency ratios are generally low in the country. Also, were analyzed it’s components: local production, import, export in dynamics. As a result the role of local production was revealed in providing food independence. Self-sufficiency ratios mainly refers to the trend of local production. In other words, when the local production increases, self-sufficiency ratios also, increas. However, there are exceptions. Focusing on the agricultural production means improving food safety. The low level of agro products in Georgia indicates that there is a great potential for its improvement. Increasing production will contribute to the elimination of the poverty and will improve other food safety indicators. |
